Generic Femara (letrozole) is used to treat certain types of breast cancer and is also used to help prevent the cancer from returning. Some breast cancers are made to grow faster by a natural hormone called oestrogen, and this medication decreases the amount of oestrogen that the body makes and helps slow or reverse the growth of these breast cancers. This is normally not used by women of childbearing age.
